Emma West
Hi my name is Emma. I have a non medicalised approach to counselling which means I see mental wellbeing - how we think, feel and behave - as being the result of people's life experiences [What's happened to you?] rather than as a medical diagnosis [What's wrong with you?]. My background of working at the BBC and being a writer means I have a lot of experience of putting people at ease and developing a good rapport. I aim to offer a warm, friendly approach to counselling, which most importantly includes listening without judging. So whatever you are struggling with - stress, low mood, anxiety, relationship issues, problems at work, loss, low self esteem, anger, trauma - I will support you in exploring what is going on, help you work out what you would like to change, and work with you to find ways to make those changes. Because I believe information and understanding can go a long way to resolving problems I often use psycho-education in sessions this starts with understanding the natural ['Monkey brain'] reactions we have when life has been, or is, difficult. To this end I've developed a series of mind maps to help explain common issues eg anxiety, depression, low self esteem, sleep problems, and which also identifies potentially useful solutions for you to try out. Potentially useful solutions include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy [which is about recognising and challenging unhelpful thinking], [long out breathe] breathing techniques, mindfulness [which is about being in the here and now / accepting thoughts], and various written exercises - these are just some examples - really it's just a question of finding what works for you. Whilst I can't give you medical advice I can help you source information and support you if you are thinking about taking prescribed psychiatric drugs, are already taking psychiatric drugs but want to consider your options, have decided you want to stop taking them, and/or you are in the process of tapering already. I also have specialist experience and knowledge of disability, discrimination, health, carer, student, LGBTQIA2S+, and gender dysphoria issues, and lived experience of carer issues and rare disability. If you have a hearing impairment we can use captions on Zoom. Please just get in touch if you have any other access requirements. Finally, I'm experienced in doing long and short term work - even one off sessions - having worked in a variety of different settings including in the NHS taking referrals from the local Depression and Anxiety service, for an NHS Specialist Gender Identity Clinic [for individuals thinking about, or in the process of, transitioning], and at the University of Exeter, as well as counselling GPs and trainee doctors [via Employee Assistance Programmes], and private individuals. NB Please message me if you'd like a session on a day/time that doesn't look available on my calendar because I could have availability and/or I can create a session slot for you.

I am a qualified psychodynamic psychotherapist (BACP registered) offering individual on line and telephone counselling to adults, the work can be short term or on-going. My way of working involves thinking about the link between past and present experiences, such as your relationships or how you respond to situations in your life. There could be patterns of behaviour that you have become stuck in and unaware of. There may be something specific that you are struggling with or a general feeling of unhappiness where feelings and thoughts are troubling you and have become overwhelming. I offer a non-judgemental space where we can explore whatever you bring together, at your own pace and in a way which feels safe. Having this space to recognise and make sense of your experiences can lead to positive change, more freedom and self awareness.

Ellie Mackay
Hi I am Ellie and I am a highly experienced and qualified psychotherapist who is based in Hull, East Yorkshire and over the years I have helped a wide range of clients who have experienced different issues. I am a facilitator of change, and just like scaffolding, I support my client while the delicate restorative work is ongoing. The aim of this process is to help you explore the cause of the issues, support you while you make the necessary adjustments, and then arm you with your own inner resources to continue your recovery journey. I use the key techniques of Gestalt psychotherapy: symbolic work, two chair work and dream work in a deeply empathetic way. This is not an exhaustive list, but here are a few of the symptoms that I have helped people with over the years. • Struggling to carry out day to day activities • Finding it hard to cope • Lack of confidence • Relationship issues • Struggling to getting up in the morning • Worrying thoughts & feelings • Overthinking • Catastrophizing (Expect the worst will happen) • Confidence & relationship issues. • Dealing with a very severe critic • Low self esteem • Childhood trauma • Difficult relationships • Addictions • Depression • Anxiety • Panic • Grief • Trauma surrounding childbirth, miscarriage & post-natal depression My practice embraces diversity in all its forms and I work keenly with people of all gender identities, sexualities, abilities, ethnic backgrounds, age groups, etc. My choice of profession has been born out of a fundamental desire to help heal people. My mission is to turn my passion for change into supporting my community and a world that I want my own family to grow up in. The work I do is more than just a job to me. It draws upon my natural strengths and has been finely tuned over many years of theoretical and practical experience. My work is also underpinned by my own programme of self-care and continued personal and professional development, to make sure you receive the most dedicated support possible. I really would love to help you and I provide a nourishing safe and non-judgemental holding space, so you have nothing to worry about. Why not book an initial session to see if you think my approach suits you?

Ann Allega
Hello, my name is Ann and I am a registered member of the BACP. I have significant experience in online counselling and as a result I firmly believe in its benefits. I have done online and phone counselling myself and I found it to be effective. I've worked with lots of people who have never experienced counselling before and I am aware that this can be an anxiety provoking and nervous experience. However, based on my experience I am of the opinion that the release of speaking about something which you may have kept private for a long time is extremely cathartic. If you've come this far, I can offer you confidential and encouraging support through whatever it is you wish to work through. You may not even know what that is! Just that it might be time to talk to someone. My previous career was in the corporate world where I worked for over fifteen years in the beer industry. I'm an American expatriate having first moved to London in 2004. One of my special areas of interest is helping American expats (or any expats) adjust emotionally and psychologically with all the differences they face in the United Kingdom. I know because I faced the same challenges. In addition, I can work with any issue you wish to bring to me. As a registered member of BACP, I am committed to my continual personal and professional development and also work in accordance with their ethical framework for good practice.

Andrea Gavin
A warm welcome to my profile, For me, therapy can benefit everyone. It offers the potential for a metaphorical spring clean or MOT, space to process, reframe and recalibrate or rehearse the possible. Importantly, it can provide holding during those difficult life experiences. Psychotherapy, enables us to understand our relational ties and dynamics and step towards our relationships with fresh eyes. I love that therapy gifts us a helicopter perspective, a zooming out and shift in viewpoint. Across the years, I have been fortunate to build vast experience working with clients and patients in the NHS, at Bupa, within universities and also private practice. My ethos, is that therapy needs to be accessible, flexible and tailored to each persons individual needs. I have a love of culture and languages having been raised cross culturally in England and Portugal. My journey into psychotherapy happened by chance - through my work as a translator - I discovered the transformative power of psychotherapy programmes in street projects in Brazil. This took me on a new path leading to a psychology degree and professional training in psychotherapy completed in 2008. Every year I complete new training and in 2017 completed training in online counselling. I am also trained to work with metaphor, images, words and other creative means in therapy. This can offer another layer to my work - it is also great for bypassing any inner critic or censor. As a psychotherapist, we are required to undertake a client journey ourselves - this is across many years. Undoubtedly, this helped shape my approach to my work - exposing me to working with body (concepts like character armour/self-protection), Psychodynamic (attachment and relational bonds), Gestalt (foreground/background and flow) and TA approaches (drivers, dynamics). I am an integrative psychotherapist - I look at how things regulate together or indeed where there is incongruence. Together we might explore pressure or choice points in your life or way of living within the context that human beings have a natural tendency for balance and wholeness (i.e. self-regulation) . Naturally, this happens when the right conditions are there - not dissimilar to growing plants - sunshine and water being essential. Clients' inform me that I am compassionate, warm and honest. I am also told they appreciate my ability for gentle and/or direct challenge as/when we agree this as an approach. In my practice I work with emotions ranging from connecting to these, labelling feelings and expressing them in a choiceful way. I am able to work with apathy as well as depression. I have experience of working safely with anger, fear as well as excitement and joy. Also, I am able to draw on basic CBT concepts to work with worry, anxiety and panic. I have accompanied individuals through their journey with grief and loss, adjustment at different stages of their lives. I have interest, experience and specialist training in working with emotional intensity in relationships and associated experiences such as gaslighting, power and control dynamics and domestic violence. I also have experience of working with families of prisoners. In addition to supporting clients and patients I have supported therapists in training through therapy during training as well as clinical supervision and reflective practice. I am interested in emotional and psychological well-being, personal development and growth, polarity work with emotions, motivation/goal setting, relational bonds and trauma. My availability can change so do please message me for my current availability. I hope this provides a glimpse at how I work and who I am as a therapist. Naturally, do reach out for more info. Andrea

Steve Kirby
I have been practicing as a therapist for 20 years; working initially with substance misuse within a community addictions programme. I then spent three extremely challenging but rewarding years working in a residential drug and alcohol rehab. I have also worked for Cruse Bereavement Care, in a GP surgery and for two years taught on an undergraduate counselling course at the American University in Richmond, Surrey. For the past twelve years I have worked part-time in a psychiatric hospital, providing both individual psychotherapy and running therapy groups on both the addictions programme and the general psychiatric programme. Alongside this I have developed and maintained my own private practice. In my spare time I enjoy reading, music, cinema, running, travel and cooking.

Our online therapy philosophy

The goal of E-Therapy is to provide the best private online therapy in the UK, delivering emotional, psychological and behavioural therapies to improve the quality of life for those across the country and worldwide.

The problems we set out to solve

Owing to the complexity and difficulties of our everyday lives, there is a rising demand for these therapeutic services in order to help with our emotional, psychological and physical difficulties.

Sadly, stress, depression and anxiety are now common symptoms of our fast-paced modern times.

We also know that not everybody has the time or resources to find a suitable therapist, and attend face-to-face sessions. Additionally, the stigma of experiencing and dealing with emotional and other difficulties may also prevent those who would benefit from therapy or counselling from using the traditional approach.

We firmly believe that having access to therapy from the comfort of your own home, office, or wherever you choose can help with the problems outlined.

How we strive to help you

We are passionate about helping people live peaceful, joyful and harmonious lives. We also understand that this progress is constantly hindered by the complexities of daily living.

For therapists and counsellors, E-Therapy is a secure, confidential and effective platform through which they can deliver psychological and behavioural therapies. And because it is an online medium, our experienced therapists can reach out to a wider audience.

We strongly believe that with the appropriate guidance, a significant proportion of the population in the UK and across the world can be in a better position to deal with life’s complexities and not feel exhausted or overwhelmed in the process. We strive to improve the quality of life of our clients and assist them in achieving happiness, prosperity and fulfilment through the best online mental health services possible.

Our mission statement

Assisting mankind in the alleviation of psychological and emotional conflict, thereby enabling humanity to progress a step further in its quest for fulfilment, purpose and happiness, in essence creating a more sustainable and harmonious world.
