Biography

As someone that has personal experience of being a client in therapy and struggling to confront issues in my life I understand the challenge it is to take the first step towards change. With this understanding in mind I aim to consider how best to support you through this process of change or acceptance and face the challenges with you.
I have a BA in Social Sciences and a Postgraduate Diploma in person centred counselling. I am accredited with the BACP and a member of the Society for Existential Analysis. I have completed several courses since to enhance my knowledge and skills as a practitioner including; trauma and stabilisation, existential theory in practice, counselling for depression, solution focused therapy, play therapy.

I currently work within the NHS and have specialised in trauma services that focus on sexual violence and abuse. I have also worked in primary care for many years facilitating change with clients experiencing multiple and varied difficulties. I have experience working with the LGBTQI community and young adults/children from voluntary work I've done through the years. I also spent time working with Employee Asistance Programmes (EAP) supporting employees through a crisis and in counselling.

Approach to treatment

I view therapy as a relationship which offers a non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. To be challenged and supported in shifting perspectives and deepening your understanding of self to enable you to accept yourself and/or accept life realities.I am happy to work with whatever you bring and avoid using the traditional labels associated with mental distress. Instead I work from an existential perspective which takes into consideration the entire life of a person and how you can live a more accepting and meaningful life in spite of the suffering you may have faced.
