Ian Scott

Specialist in Older Adults, Adult mental health



Ian Scott is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, having qualified in 1999, he has over 20 years NHS experience in Berkshire and Devon. He specialises in the mental health of older adults, dealing with loss, grief, life adjustment issues, and works with couples and families. He was the Principal Counselling Psychologist for a team assessing and supporting people with dementia including memory assessment and carer support. Furthermore Ian has worked extensively with people of all ages who might be experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, personality difficulties and complex mental health difficulties. Ian has also worked with addictions. Using CBT for many problems, he has also qualified in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and trained in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and has further training in Compassionate Leadership under Deborah Lee. He teaches Mindfulness as a method of help in its own right, and as an adjunctive treatment. He has spent the last two years designing and leading Inpatient Services for Older People and has good experience of dealing with assessments of capacity.

Approach to treatment

i believe that many mental health difficulties can be eased by good psychological support. Being able to share you story and have someone listen attentively to it is a core part of counselling psychology. My practice is built on that. I will listen and work with you, to resolve issues that can seem hard to tackle when you're down.You can recover your mental health.
