SPECIALIST IN AMERICAN EXPATRIATES • ADDICTIONS • WORK RELATED STRESS • RELATIONSHIP ISSUES • EXPATRIATE RELOCATION STRESS • FAMILY DYNAMICS • PTSD • ANGER MANAGEMENT • ANXIETY • DEPRESSION • LOW SELF ESTEEM • ADHD

Hello, my name is Ann and I am a registered member of the BACP. I have significant experience in online counselling and as a result I firmly believe in its benefits. I have done online and phone counselling myself and I found it to be effective. I've worked with lots of people who have never experienced counselling before and I am aware that this can be an anxiety provoking and nervous experience. However, based on my experience I am of the opinion that the release of speaking about something which you may have kept private for a long time is extremely cathartic. If you've come this far, I can offer you confidential and encouraging support through whatever it is you wish to work through. You may not even know what that is! Just that it might be time to talk to someone. My previous career was in the corporate world where I worked for over fifteen years in the beer industry. I'm an American expatriate having first moved to London in 2004. One of my special areas of interest is helping American expats adjust emotionally and psychologically with all the differences they face in the United Kingdom. I know because I faced the same challenges. In addition, I can work with any issue you wish to bring to me. As a registered member of BACP, I am committed to my continual personal and professional development and also work in accordance with their ethical framework for good practice.

SPECIALIST IN Anger, anxiety, bereavement, bullying, couples counselling, depression, domestic violence, mental health issues, physical and sexual abuse, PTSD, relationship difficulties, stress

I am very lucky to have had the opportunity to use my counselling skills to support people in so many different ways. I have counselled at a GP surgery. I have worked with a local charity and a national bereavement charity. I have run anger management groups and also specialising in bereavement counselling. I now focus on my private practice in Hastings working with people online the phone and face to face. I also work with children and have done creative activities with people with dementia. Before I became a counsellor was a social worker in London supporting people with drug rehabilitation. Seeing how well some people managed to come off drugs with the support of one to one counselling made me want to become a counsellor to offer that kind of support. I also worked in a hospital on a mental health team and at the local social services in East Sussex.

I am a fully qualified Professional Counsellor. Following the completion of a BSc (hons) Degree in Psychology, I obtained a BACP recognised Diploma in Counselling. I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and an Accredited Member of the National Counselling Society. I belong to the accredited register recognized by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. I am currently working towards achieving full BACP accreditation by seeing clients in private practice.

Within my professional practice I demonstrate sensitivity to individual differences when working with clients of diverse ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation and cultural background, treating all people with unconditional positive regards and respect.

I work holistically with the individual, acknowledging the complexity of being human, as I believe that people are more than their diagnosis. I have the ability to work with clients with complex needs experiencing emotional and psychological unbalance.

I believe people have all the necessary resources within themselves to fully recover and achieve their goals in life. My role is to facilitate self awareness and inner exploration. Mindfulness is a key concept in my work with client. It is only by accepting ourselves fully for who we are that the changes we are longing for will occur naturally.

I am a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Clinical Psychology. I predominately work with adults (18 and over) who may be experiencing a wide range of emotional and psychological problems. Over the past ten years I have worked across a range of mental health settings, including inpatient and community services. I have experience of working with clients facing a range of emotional difficulties including depression, anxiety disorders (such as social anxiety, panic disorder), trauma and PTSD, low self-esteem, OCD, difficulties managing emotions, grief, adjustment difficulties, and many more.

I provide psychological therapy using a cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) approach and will draw on a range of other evidence-based approaches, as required, to meet the needs of each individual client. Within therapy, it is essential for clients to develop a safe, confidential and supportive therapeutic relationship with their therapist as this provides the basis for clients to explore their emotions and understand their difficulties. Once a good therapeutic relationship has developed, we can work collaboratively, using various cognitive and behavioural strategies, to make changes in your thinking and behaviour to reduce distress and improve psychological functioning.
