Approach to treatment
Naturopathic nutrition is a holistic health care system that recognises the healing power of nature present in all living things. As a holistic system it aims to promote and restore health by employing various natural treatment approaches that may include: diet, nutritional supplements, detoxification methods, and lifestyle advice.
I use a holistic approach which aims to address the root cause of disease and ill health. I look at diet, macro and micro nutrient deficiencies, lifestyle, detoxification and dysfunction in the gut. This is achieved with a review of the entire medical history and symptom picture to identify the root cause of illness. Nutritional approaches are then used to promote the bodies inherent self-healing power to restore health.
I place a strong emphasis on addressing the root cause of ill health by using functional medicine testing such as:
Food allergy/intolerance testing
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (which reveals mineral deficiencies, adrenal function, thyroid function, toxic metals such as mercury)
Stool testing (tests for imbalances in gut bacteria, candida, parasites)
Intestinal permeability testing (identifies leaky gut)
Hormone testing
DNA Testing
And many other functional tests
These tests help to discover why you are ill and how you can get better.
Once you identify and address the root cause of the health issue, symptoms usually disappear.
