SPECIALIST IN ADDICTIONS . OCD . ANXIETY . EATING DISORDERS . DEPRESSION . LOW SELF ESTEEM. STRESS. LOSS and BEREAVEMENT. RELATIONSHIP ISSUES

Before training as a clinical counsellor/therapist, I lectured in computing and Information technology in Merseyside and Manchester for over 15 years. I gained counselling experience in this role as one of my duties was to counsel students. I subsequently qualified with a Masters in clinical counselling in 2011. I worked in a charity organisation in Accrington, Lancashire for four years before deciding to set up my private practice in Southport. I have a special interest in addiction and compulsive thinking/behaviour having researched this area as part of my Masters qualification. I have experience dealing with addictions, OCD, anxiety, eating disorders and depression. I am a person centred counsellor and I tailor my approach to adapt to the needs of each client and offer what will be most helpful to them. I work on the principle that the most significant aspect of counselling is to establish a working relationship with a client that is based on confidentiality, trust and safety.

SPECIALIST IN AMERICAN EXPATRIATES • ADDICTIONS • WORK RELATED STRESS • RELATIONSHIP ISSUES • EXPATRIATE RELOCATION STRESS • FAMILY DYNAMICS • PTSD • ANGER MANAGEMENT • ANXIETY • DEPRESSION • LOW SELF ESTEEM • ADHD

Hello, my name is Ann and I am a registered member of the BACP. I have significant experience in online counselling and as a result I firmly believe in its benefits. I have done online and phone counselling myself and I found it to be effective. I've worked with lots of people who have never experienced counselling before and I am aware that this can be an anxiety provoking and nervous experience. However, based on my experience I am of the opinion that the release of speaking about something which you may have kept private for a long time is extremely cathartic. If you've come this far, I can offer you confidential and encouraging support through whatever it is you wish to work through. You may not even know what that is! Just that it might be time to talk to someone. My previous career was in the corporate world where I worked for over fifteen years in the beer industry. I'm an American expatriate having first moved to London in 2004. One of my special areas of interest is helping American expat women adjust emotionally and psychologically with all the differences they face in the United Kingdom. I know because I faced the same challenges. In addition, I can work with any issue you wish to bring to me. As a registered member of BACP, I am committed to my continual personal and professional development and also work in accordance with their ethical framework for good practice.
Ben Scanlan - Therapist

SPECIALIST IN Depression, suicidal feelings, anxiety, career stress, issues of living, relationship problems, addiction, sexual abuse, domestic abuse, gender specific issues, spiritual anxiety, bereavement and loss

In my experience, most of us aren't able to walk along happily all the time; there are issues ranging from career problems, anxiety about our future to severe depression after a trauma. These issues, and any issues, can occasionally go away by themselves, but more often, they need exploring in the context of your life to come to a greater understanding. That's where I come in; giving you a space that you can use to get a better understanding of how you are in the world, why you may be like that, how it serves you and what possible routes forward you have. I believe our relationship, and ability to be honest with each other is key.

I have experience in a variety of settings including the NHS, Maytree (a sanctuary for people in suicidal crisis) and other charities.
